Nick McKoy has left Northampton Town after being told by manager Aidy Boothroyd that he had no future at the club.

The 25 year old signed for the Cobblers in the summer following his release by Blue Square Premier side Kettering Town. He has struggled to make an impact on the first team this season, appearing just nine times in the League.

Manager Aidy Boothroyd explained the decision, "I believe in beng honest with people and Nick was not going to be part of the future here. It is in the interests of every player that they are playing regular first team football and he has a move lined up that will hopefully give Nick that opportunity."

McKoy started his career with Wimbledon before short spells with Cardiff City, Torquay United and St Johnstone.

NORTHAMPTON TOWN FC: LANGMEAD JOINS COBBLERS

Northampton Town have signed Kelvin Langmead on an eighteen month contract following his release by Championship side Peterborough.

The 26 year old had been on loan with the Cobblers this season and his impressive performances persuaded manager Aidy Boothroyd to make the switch permanent.

"Kelvin has done very well for us. He's a player who has had success at this level before and he is a wholehearted player."

Langmead has appeared twenty two times for the Cobblers so far this season, scoring once.

Speaking to BBC Radio Northampton, manager Aidy Boothroyd confirmed an appeal would be forthcoming, "Johnno's gone in brave, but the referee couldn't get his card out quick enough."

Northampton Town manager Aidy Boothroyd has confirmed that new addition Shane Higgs will go straight into the Cobblers squad for their clash with Burton Albion today.

The 35 year old signed for the League Two side on Thursday on a free transfer following his release by Leeds United.

Speaking to the club's official website Boothroyd explained his decision to leave Chelsea loanee and recent number one Sam Walker out, "I explained to Sam that Shane would be my first choice."

"Sam accepted the decision like the good professional he is and it was decided he would return to Chelsea. There was no point Sam staying here and not playing."
