Northampton Town manager Aidy Boothroyd has confirmed that new addition Shane Higgs will go straight into the Cobblers squad for their clash with Burton Albion today.

The 35 year old signed for the League Two side on Thursday on a free transfer following his release by Leeds United.

Speaking to the club's official website Boothroyd explained his decision to leave Chelsea loanee and recent number one Sam Walker out, "I explained to Sam that Shane would be my first choice."

"Sam accepted the decision like the good professional he is and it was decided he would return to Chelsea. There was no point Sam staying here and not playing."
