Shelbourne have confirmed via their official website that they have been reinstated to the FAI Cup competition.
A statement on the website read, "Shelbourne football club would like to announced that representatives of the club today met with the Appeals Committee of the FAI and put forward their case for reinstatement of the club to the 2011 Ford FAI Senior Cup. We are delighted to announced that we were, tonight, verbally informed that our appeal had been successful."
The decision follows a period of confusion after Shels opponents Sheriff YC were expelled from the competition at the beginning of September for fielding an ineligible player. Instead of Shelbourne being reinstated straight away, League of Ireland first division side Limerick were instead given a bye into the semi finals.
Speaking at the time of Sheriff's expulsion, Shelbourne officials said, "Shelbourne FC is aghast at the decision of the committee not to reinstate our club to this season's FAI Ford Cup as a consequence of this and will be making no further comments until the club's board of management has examined, in conjunction with its Legal Advisors, all available options."
Many will see today's decision as justice for the Tolka Park club.
