The 20 year old midfielder was on a three month loan deal with the League One club but Tony Pulis has taken the decision to bring him back to the Britannia Stadium due to his lack of first team action.
Oldham boss Paul Dickov said, "Stoke wanted Matty to come here to play games which hasn't been happening in recent weeks. After speaking with Stoke, both parties agreed it was best given the circumstances that Matty should go back."
An Under 21 international for Northern Ireland, Lund had a short spell on loan with Hereford last season.
