Blue Square Premier side Newport County have signed former Coventry City and Notts County midfielder David Pipe on a non contract basis.
The 27 year has just been released from a thirty–eight month jail sentence after he was convicted of fracturing another man's skull, but County's chairman Chris Blight says he is fully behind manager Anthony Hudson's decision to bring the former Wales international to the club.
"We've sat down and talked with Anthony and have decided unanimously that we want to give him the chance to turn things around. We will continue to do everything we can to help Anthony and hope for better results in the near future."
Following Pipe's conviction in the summer of 2010, his contract with League Two side Bristol Rovers was terminated. Hudson spoke of the midfielder's hunger to succeed at his new side, "David really, really wants to come here and he could be a massive player for us. We need to be fully committed to turning things around and David is the kind of character who can help us. He's served his time and wants to move on at Newport County."
Pipe should feature for the Exiles in their game away at Braintree Town on Saturday.
