Reds boss Keith Hill takes to the Oakwell dugout for the first time in the Championship this season on Saturday as the Tykes face Southampton.
The Barnsley Manager Keith Hill was speaking to the media ahead of the Reds' first home league match for 2011/2012.
"It's a 45 game season now," said Hill. "We're coming up against another fancied side in Southampton who have started this season electric. There's a game-plan, a strategy and an appetite to be successful.
"The expectations are so high at every football club that you've got to accept criticism. When you lose football matches, there's a lot of criticism.
"Football is a great leveller once you get out there and the referee blows his whistle for the first time.
"Any player who is not performing doesn't pick himself. Players' performances pick teams, it's no different here."
With regards to transfers, both in and out, Hill commented:
"You're always looking for goals, but you've got to get goals from all over the pitch.
"They're our players. It's going to take some serious amount of cash to get any player out of this place now unless we decide to recycle players. The players won't dictate whether they leave this football club at this moment in time.
"It's a results-driven business. We want to try and get a balance to the away form and away results.
"Eleven home victories last season kept Barnsley in the Championship -we're looking to mirror that but improve on the away performances as well.
"A season's not decided in two or three games. There's too much negativity, enthusiasm and optimism after only 90 minutes of football."
Hill is prepared for Saturday's opponents, Southampton, who have made a great start to the new campaign.
"They made eight changes the other night to their starting eleven - so that shows you the type of club we're dealing with in terms of resources. It's a big fish in a big pond this season, they were a big fish in a small pond last season.I know Nigel (Adkins) very well, he's an excellent manager, he's got success and he's managing a big club and a big club's expectations.
"It's a good opportunity for us. I'm looking forward to the challenge - I like playing against Nigel's sides, they want to play. It's a real 'looking-forward-to' game."
