MK DONS: LEWINGTON SEES THE BEST AND THE WORST

Dean Lewington has echoed the thoughts of Karl Robinson by admitting MK Dons have shown hints of their strengths and glimpses of their weaknesses in their first two games of the season.

A draw against Hartlepool United was followed by the 4-1 win over Cheltenham Town in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night. At times the Dons' attacking football was scintillating and exciting to watch, but fragilities at the back have at times left the Dons exposed.

With the season so new it is expected that a few cracks will show up but Lewington, who scored at Cheltenham in midweek, believes if the Dons can continue to build on their better habits the results will quickly follow and he is hoping that starts on Saturday when they travel to Exeter City.

The Dons have never lost to the Grecians, but they have never won a game by more than the odd goal either, so a close encounter is expected.

Speaking ahead of the game Lewington said: "It's been a bit of a mixed bag, I think you've seen the best of us and the worst of us in the last two games because we've conceded three sloppy goals.

"We always seem to do okay against them (Exeter), they usually give us a good game and going at this time of year should make it a decent game. Hopefully we can go there impose our style and get a result.

"We know there is a long way to go and we know we're still a work in progress. We want to play this year how we did towards the end of last four months of last season, if we can replicate that we know we will be close."
