Yannick Boli, 23, is a former Paris Saint Germain striker. He featured for the Shrimpers in another second string fixture last week but now has another chance to impress reserve team coach Graham Coughlan.
"Yannick is an exciting talent and we will be having another look at him in today's game. He did OK in the game we had last week and definitely impressed when he had the ball," Coughlan said.
Southend will also be taking a close look at former Rotherham United defender Luke Ashworth. The 21 year old is expected to feature in the reserve game today in the hope of securing a contract with the League Two side. He was released by the Millers in the summer and has most recently been playing with Harrogate Town.
