Ipswich Town midfielder Carlos Edwards has been given a suspended sentence after admitting driving without insurance and while disqualified.
The 32 year old was handed a 12 week suspended prison term along with a £2,500 fine and he was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of community service.
It wasn't the first time the former Sunderland man had been in trouble over driving offences, he was seeing out a 12 month driving ban at the time of his arrest, that has now been extended for a further 18 months.
On Ipswich Town's official website Edwards issued an apology for his behaviour, "I'm obviously relieved at the verdict. I made a stupid mistake and I want to take this opportunity to apologise for that."
"I also want to thank the people at the Football Club for their support through this difficult time, especially Simon [Clegg, Chief Executive] who has been a great help to me. I know I have let Ipswich Town down and I'll be aiming to make amends for that on the pitch over the rest of the season."
Edwards was fined two weeks wages by the Championship club for his actions.
