BURNLEY FC: NEW PRESIDENT ANNOUNCED

Jimmy McIlroy has been named the new president at Burnley FC.

Widely regarded as the Claret's greatest ever player, McIlroy spent 12 years with club as a midfielder, making over 400 appearances and scoring over 100 goals.

The 79 year old spoke after being bestowed with the honorary title, "I am a little embarrassed but obviously proud of this honour. I keep wondering what's next as I have had so many accolades given to me recently. It is a tribute for all my team mates."

McIlroy started his career at IFA Premiership side Glentoran before signing for Burnley as an 18 year old in 1950. Following his departure from the Clarets in 1962 he moved to Stoke City before ending his career with Oldham Athletic.
