SHAMROCK ROVERS: O'NEILL UNDER NO ILLUSIONS

Shamrock Rovers boss Michael O'Neill is realistic about what is expected of his side ahead of their clash with Rubin Kazan in the Europa League tonight.

Speaking to the press ahead of match O'Neill said he understood the size of the mountain his side need to climb but insisted all the pressure was on their Russian opponents.

"We're under no illusions about the quality of the opposition. They're the Russian champions in two of the last three years. They've been in the Champions League group stages for the last two seasons, so the pedigree is there."

"The expectation level is with Kazan, and we have everything to gain from this game. I suppose we're paddling furiously beneath the surface of the water to continue to make these things happen and to compete as a team and that's what our aim is. We believe we can take points in the competition."

The Hoops game this evening will be the first played by an Irish side in the Europa League.
