The 28 year old had been without a club since his Leyton Orient contract expired in the summer of 2010.
A statement confirming the signing on the club's official website read, "Aberystwyth Town Football Club have arguably pulled off the biggest signing in Welsh Premier League history this evening after capturing former English Premier League midfielder Sean Thornton until January."
Thornton is expected to feature for the Seasiders as they travel to Airbus UK on Friday evening.
