Speaking during the week Ipswich manager Paul Jewell spoke of his interest in the centre back, and a deal now looks to have been agreed between the two clubs.
31 year old Collins was the subject of an approach by Ipswich during the summer transfer window, however that was rejected by Tony Pulis' side.
Jewell will be looking to get any deal concluded ahead of this afternoon's cut off point for the player to feature in the game against Blackpool tomorrow.
