DONCASTER ROVERS: SAUNDERS CONFIRMED AS NEW BOSS

Doncaster Rovers have announced former Wrexham boss, Dean Saunders, as their new manager following the termination of Sean O'Driscoll's contract yesterday.

Speaking as he was presented to the media this afternoon, Saunders said the interest from Rovers had come as a surprise, "It came as a bit of a shock to me, I heard about the opportunity last night and agreed terms with the Chairman. It's all a bit of a whirlwind."

Saunders leaves Wrexham in second place in the Blue Square Premier, a start that followed a decent season last term where he lead the Dragons to a play off semi final. These achievements, mixed with his role as assistant manager with the Wales senior squad, prompted Rovers' chairman John Ryan to approach him.

"We saw what Dean had done with the limited resources at the Racecourse Ground and were impressed with what he had achieved because it's a tough division. He brings an invigorating feeling to the club after our bad sequence in the league."

Saunders will take charge of his first Rovers game tomorrow as they host Crystal Palace.
