Crewe Alexandra manager Dario Gradi has revealed in an interview with BBC Stoke that he finds it tough to work with midfielder Nick Powell.
Seventeen year old Powell is currently attracting interest from teams in the Premier League but Gradi says he needs to stop trying to play fancy football and concentrate on his game.
"When he does ridiculous chips and flicks I tell him, 'don't think you're going to score that.' I think that he has now accepted that what I've said to him about his future will depend on him scoring goals, I think he understands that now."
Powell, who has featured for the England under 17's side in the past, has made five appearances for the Alex this term including three starts. He is held in high regard by the staff at Gresty Road but the Crewe boss just wants him to focus on what he's good at.
"Instead of ridiculous and outrageous shots, he's actually trying to put the ball in the back of the net which he has the ability to do, there's no doubt about that."
Powell has just completed a three match suspension after being shown a straight red card in the league game against Shrewsbury.
