Plans for a new community stadium for Blue Square Premier side Cambridge United could involve the ground being shared with neighbours Cambridge City.
Chris White, director of the development firm looking to work on the ground, says a groundshare is a possibility, "We're still open minded about the ground being shared. We're certainly not closed to the idea. We haven't progressed discussions very far with City about it, and that's why we felt it was unlikely."
The Lilywhites' chairman Kevin Satchell also seemed open to the idea, "We still consider sharing a ground as an option for us. As far as we're concerned it is something we'd like to consider. We're stil looking at all options."
Last week it was announced that the U's landlords had identified two potential locations for a future stadium, Trumpington Meadows and space of land in the North West of Cambridge.
Early estimates suggest the stadium will cost in the region of £8 and £12 million to put together. The project director Ed Skeates was quick to point out the construction would ultimately pay for itself, "This project is more than just a football stadium. It's a community stadium which will provide for related educational, health and housing needs."
