According to the player's manager the decision to end the transfer was mutual and not a result of concerns over Fontaine's fitness, "I am not at liberty to disclose the nature or content of those discussions but I can confirm that the decision was in no way related to any long term concerns over his fitness."
A £800,000 fee had been agreed between the clubs but the deal is now believed to be dead in the water.
