MIDDLESBROUGH: BATES TOO PRICY FOR SWANS

Swansea City seem to have been priced out in their efforts to sign Middlesbrough defender Matthew Bates.

The Welsh club had hoped to add the 24 year old to their squad ahead of the weekend but are being put off by the price tag Middlesbrough have given him.

Bates has just entered the final year of his 'Boro contract and Tony Mowbray [Middlesbrough manager] has conceded that the Riverside club may struggle to tie him down to an extension, "Matthew is from a different timescale in terms of salary and sometimes, when players are running out a contract, we have to listen to offers."
