Huddersfield 'keeper Alex Smithies could find himself on the sidelines for a further three months after surgery to repair a knee injury.
The 21 year old has yet to feature for his team this season and was restricted to just 27 appearances in Hudderfield's 2010/11 campaign.
Terriers boss Lee Clark however says there is no need to rusk the young goalkeeper back into action, "It's not a short term solution, but we have found the problem and identified it and as I have said previously he's only 21 and has another 20 years in the game."
"For the sake of anywhere between 10 to 12 weeks we will not be rushing him back into action. It's important that he comes back ready and fully fit," he added.
In Smithies' abscence, Ian Bennett will continue in goal for Huddersfield when they meet Colchester on Saturday.
