The 27 year old had been on trial with Cotterill's Portsmouth side and featured in their friendly clash with FC Rostov last week, but has now been told he can leave the club.
"He just came in for a couple of days' training and we had a look. He got released by Real Betis and it was just a chance for us to have a look at him." Cotterill said.
