PLYMOUTH ARGYLE: STAPLETON NOT PLANNING A SWOOP

Paul Stapleton, former Plymouth Argyle chairman, has rebuffed reports that he is putting together a consortium to de-rail the takeover bid for the League Two side by James Brent.

Stapleton stepped down from his role as chairman at Plymouth in 2009 following a takeover by Sir Roy Gardner, but online reports suggested he may be planning to get back on board with the club again, he insists this is not the case.

"I can categorically state that I am not a member of any consortium nor any bid for the club, and never have been."

In an interview with the Plymouth Herald Stapleton has revealed he has received a series of threats from 'fans' of the club angry at his potential involvement in a rescue package. He has forwarded concerning messages about his family to the police.
