The 23 year is currently on a month's loan with the League Two side but Simpson has been impressed with the striker's performances.
"I can't really say too much about that at the minute but we're trying to do something. To be honest I'm quite happy with the young squad we've got and as long as they keep doing what they've been doing then hopefully it will improve and get better."
Donnelly scored his first goal for the Silkmen in their clash with Swindon Town at the weekend.
