Manager Gary Hackett revealed in an interview that he had been an admirer of the striker's talents for a while now and was relieved to have fought off competition from other teams and bring him to the club.
"John has been on our radar for quite a time. He can play in most positions up front, as a wide player, or off the main striker or as a solo striker. He has got a lot about him and the important thing is that he wants to learn and improve."
