PORT VALE: ROBERTS SUSPENDED

Port Vale midfielder Gary Roberts has again found himself at the centre of controversy after being suspended by the club following a breach of discipline.

The 24 year old is understood to have been absent from training at the weekend, "He chose not to turn up or inform anyone he wasn't coming in, what's even worse is that he reported in unfit to carry out his duties on Monday," Vale boss Micky Adams said.

Roberts was sacked by his former club Rotherham United, prompting the then manager, Ronnie Moore to say, "He has had his contract terminated for a serious breach of the club's code of conduct. It's not only once but on several occasions that this has happened and enough is enough. He's a talented player, but at the end of the day, we can't have him disrupting the dressing room, and the Chairman, and myself, made the decision that this was the road we had to go down."

Before joining Rotherham, Roberts played for Yeovil Town, another club he left in acrimonious circumstances. Manager Terry Skiverton said at the time of Robert's suspension from the club, "I don't want to comment too much at the moment but he's been sent away for disciplinary reasons."

The midfielder began his career with Crewe Alexandra as a youngster but even that relationship ended on a sour note when he was suspended after a 'training ground incident'.

Roberts had billed his move to Port Vale as 'the last chance saloon' but it remains to be seen whether he will still be a Vale player at the end of his fourteen day suspension.
