Following the termination of Peter Reid's contract at the weekend, Plymouth Argyle have appointed team captain Carl Fletcher as caretaker manager.
Speaking after his appointment was confirmed Fletcher said, "I am grateful to be offered the opportunity to take on the manager's role at Argyle and can assure all of our supporters that I will give nothing short of 100% in attempting to turn around our fortunes on the field. I believe that, with the current squad and perhaps one or two additions, there is no reason why we cannot return to winning ways sooner, rather than later."
Argyle have managed just one draw all season and find themselves rooted to the bottom of League Two, four points from the team above them, Hereford United.
Peter Ridsdale, the acting chairman at Plymouth said Fletcher now had the chance to stake a claim for the position of manager on a full time basis, "Whilst initially taking up the position of caretaker manager, there is no reason, if successful, why Carl cannot make this position a permanent appointment."
Fletcher has added the Pilgrim's longest serving player, Romain Larrieu to his backroom staff as first team coach. Larrieu had initially put his hat into the ring for the top job at Home Park after being questioned about the vacancy by BBC Radio Devon.
"I would because that is part of the game that I'm interested in. You need to start somewhere so if I was asked I'd be honoured and be more than happy."
