FAN'S VIEW: MACCLESFIELD TOWN SEASON PREVIEW

Macclesfield Town Chris, our Silkmen match previewer of last season, has given us a preview of the season ahead for his club.

How do you feel the 2014/15 season went for Macclesfield Town?

I think we over achieved, if you look at the budget we had, it was one of the lowest in the league. We went into last season having lost our top scorer Scott Boden to Halifax and also Danny Andrew to Fleetwood. The thing about last season is, we didn’t score enough goals throughout the team, but then again we didn’t concede that many either.

Have you been impressed with the additions made during the summer break?

We haven’t really made that many signings because we have kept most of the team together, the players we have bought in have the ability of succeeding at National League Premier level. We lost Rhys Taylor and Scott Barrow to Newport County and Adriano Moke to Wrexham.
We signed Curtis Brown-Haynes from Lowestoft, Tony Diagne on a year loan from Lincoln, Jack Sampson who was released by Morecambe, Theo Bailey-Jones who was released by Wrexham, Kristian Dennis on a year loan from Stockport County and Neil Byrne from AFC Telford.

Are there any area’s you feel still need strengthening?

I think we need a backup goalkeeper and also a couple more strikers, but not sure if the budget will stretch any further.

Are there any fixtures that you’re particularly looking forward to?

I am looking forward to Altrincham, Tranmere Rovers and also Wrexham and Chester. I'm particularly looking forward to the Altrincham game more as there is rivalry that goes back many of years. The Tranmere Rovers game will be good as its local and they are a big club at non-league level.

Which opposition team do you have high hopes for this season?

I think there is a lot of strong teams in The National League Premier, but you have to expect teams such as Forest Green, Eastleigh, Grimsby, Wrexham and Tranmere  Rovers to be in and around the play-offs come the end of the season.

Which players among your squad should we be looking out for this term?

I think we have some good players at Macclesfield, but I think Paul Lewis and Dan Cowan could be the ones to watch this season.

Where do you think you’ll end up at the end of the season?

I have the confidence in the team to succeed once again this season, I think if we can have a good start to the season, you never know where we will end up. I have a feeling we can make the play-offs if we can sign one or two more players.
