Despite a disappointing campaign last time around for Hartlepool many are optimistic about the upcoming season under Ronnie Moore. John offered us his thoughts.
HOW DID YOU FEEL THE 14/15 SEASON WENT FOR YOUR TEAM?
Last season although exciting towards the climax, (as we actually pulled off the great escape)! OVERALL WAS A NIGHTMARE! second rate football, 2nd rate players. we survived by the skin of our teeth thanks to Ronnie Moore's brilliance in galvanising a group of non triers. "who,s the best manager in the football league? its you ron ron ron, its you ron ron" sang to the tune of (doo-ron-ron).
HAVE YOU BEEN IMPRESSED WITH THE ADDITIONS MADE DURING THE SUMMER BREAK?
Our new additions, 10 of them, I cant really say yet. went to our pre-season friendly at Gateshead FC and they played us off the park. we look weak at the back still. he,s going for a 3-5-2 formation apparently so we,ll see. got to give them 10-12 games to gel, but we still need a good start; and not get into last seasons fiasco.
ARE THERE ANY AREAS YOU FEEL STILL NEED STRENGTHENING?
At the back. height and power. up front, a proven goal scoring duo. Scott Fenwick was excellent last season, relishing his chance at the pro game, from non league, long may he continue. could be a good partnership with our newly appointed captain Billy Painter.
ARE THERE ANY FIXTURES THAT YOU'RE PARTICULARLY LOOKING FORWARD TO?
York away is our local Derby where we always take at least 2000 Poolies, but I'll miss that one as I'm in Cyprus. DAMN YOU WIFE! last away trip,(where we always famously get dressed up) this season is Plymouth Argyle away, so plans are afoot!
WHICH OPPOSITION TEAM DO YOU HAVE HIGH HOPES FOR THIS SEASON?
Wycombe will be there or thereabouts following play off heartbreak, Luton, too. Bristol Rovers coming up is good, they have a good following. its a tough league, but the interesting part , unlike the predictable, boring premiership; is that everyone can beat everyone, which makes it unpredictable!
WHICH PLAYERS AMONG YOUR SQUAD SHOULD WE BE LOOKING OUT FOR THIS TERM?
Scott Fenwick will hopefully improve on his Goal tally from last season. Tshibola is now a cult hero at the Vic. Jordon Richards is a big miss, as he,s now out for 6 weeks. but the Main man for me is Scott Harrison, he has NEVER let us, the club, or himself down, since we signed him from Sunderland. wish we had another 10 like him!
WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'LL END UP AT THE END OF THE SEASON?
Not fighting for our lives again thankyou very much! mid-table obscurity will do me thanking you!
