FAN'S VIEW: CHARLTON ATHLETIC SEASON PREVIEW

Charlton Athletic fan Hannah gave us her thoughts on the 2015/16 season for her club.

HOW DID YOU FEEL THE 14/15 SEASON WENT FOR YOUR TEAM?

We went the first 10 or 11 games unbeaten so you would think that would be play off form but a thin squad and a lack of confidence from the new manager really took it’s toll. Alleged training field bust ups, new owners still trying to figure out the championship and a sacking mid way through didn't help. Most of the highlights game from Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s wonder goals and watching Joe Gomez shine in defence. It was a fairly average season to be honest and until Tony Watt came on and scored his first goal, I was ready to not renew my season ticket (I did).

HAVE YOU BEEN IMPRESSED WITH THE ADDITIONS MADE DURING THE SUMMER BREAK?

As an English fan, you always want to see good English players come through and getting the chance in the team. For the most part Charlton have a great academy and promote players into the first team when the time is right. However this Summer we've made seven foreign signings who most of the fans have no idea about so there’s a bit of scepticism but also intrigue. You would hope being the fourth transfer window for the current owners, that they would get it right this time after learning from past mistakes- borrowing really average players from the owners other clubs.

ARE THERE ANY AREAS YOU FEEL STILL NEED STRENGTHENING?

We don’t really have a quality left sided winger and we need a back up right back to be pretty precise. We really just need bodies in the door at this stage in case of injuries and fatigue, which happened quite quickly come the winter months last season.

ARE THERE ANY FIXTURES THAT YOU'RE PARTICULARLY LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Not really. With Palace in the premiership and Millwall being relegated we don’t have any big local fixtures.

WHICH OPPOSITION TEAM DO YOU HAVE HIGH HOPES FOR THIS SEASON?

I have high hopes for Derby with Clement & their acquisitions this Summer. They should have been promoted two seasons ago. I’ll also be looking out for Chris Powell & Gary Rowett as managers (although not their clubs). Good English managers who have a lot to prove in the Championship this season.

WHICH PLAYERS AMONG YOUR SQUAD SHOULD WE BE LOOKING OUT FOR THIS TERM?

Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who will probably get a Premiership move next Summer scores the most spectacular goals. Tony Watt is always exciting to watch no matter what team you support. Also, our new signing Christian Cellabos from Spurs could be quite exciting with his La Masia pedigree…

WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'LL END UP AT THE END OF THE SEASON?

As it’s our fourth season back in the Championship we run the risk of becoming a boring stagnating mid table club that Sky Sports has forgotten about. But I think this year we’ll surprise a few people and finish in and around the play-offs. Although my each way bet to win the Championship is a bit more hopeful…
