DERRY CITY: MAGILTON APPROACHED

Derry City are understood to be in talks with former Ipswich Town manager Jim Magilton over the vacant managerial position at the club.

Most recently in charge of Queens Park Rangers, Magilton is also amongst the front runners to replace Phil Brown at League One side Preston North End.

A statement from Derry City chairman Philip O'Doherty this week failed to name any prospective candidates and simply read, "About 12 people have expressed an interest in becoming the new manager ... but until we have something more than that, that's all I am prepared to say."

Former manager Stephen Kenny moved to League of Ireland championships Shamrock Rovers recently, prompting Derry's search for a new boss.
