The 31 year old has made five appearances for the Addicks in a three month loan spell that started in November. Speaking to the club's official website he explained his reasons for deciding to remain at The Valley.
"I just want to go and play week in week out and that's what I've known all through my career. It was a very disheartening time at Preston with the situation that I was in but I've come and been given the opportunity to go out there and play in the last few games and I'm loving every minute of it."
Russell signed for Preston North End in the summer of 2010 following his release by Norwich City, however he has made just twenty seven league appearances in that time.
