In an interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United goalkeeper Andy Lonergan says helping his side to promotion could pave the way for an international call up.
The 27 year old has featured at Under 20 and Under 21 level for England but still hopes to represent his country at senior level.
"I look at the 'keepers who are in the England squad and I don't think any of them are so much better than me. That's just the way I feel. As I see it, if you're an English 'keeper and you're playing in the Premier League then you've got a good chance of playing for England or being in the squad."
Lonergan signed for the Whites in the summer from Preston North End, following their relegation to League One, and feels promotion to the Premier League is the key to him being selected for Fabio Capello's squad.
"Take someone like John Ruddy, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he's in an England squad before long because Norwich got promoted last season and he's playing at the highest level. There aren't too many English lads in the Premier League so if you get there, anything's possible."
