Nigel Clough will have two experienced defenders back in the fold in the coming weeks after it was confirmed that both Shaun Barker and Chris Riggott's recovery bids are stepping up.
Riggott only moved to Pride Park in the summer but an achilles injury has prevented him making an appearance at all this season. The 31 year old came through an hour of the Rams' resever fixture against Burton Albion this midweek and Clough was delighted at his progress.
"It's good to have Chris back. He needs to have a good week or two of training under his belt now, which is the next step as he builds everything up. Everything is geared towards him completing 90 minutes in the reserves now."
"We will see how he goes in training too but it is good to have him back and when he is available he will be an important member of the team."
Shaun Barker is set to meet with a specialist later in the month to pencil in a date when he can return to training. The 29 year old underwent surgery earlier in the year on a knee problem and now faces a tough training regime to build up his fitness.
"Shaun has been working very hard and is taking part in lots of progressive running drills now. There's plenty more work to come too and hopefully this will include two or three reserves games to get him back to match fitness," Rams physio Neil Sullivan said.
