The 27 year old has found first team opportunities at Leeds United limited this season and will now look to make a dent on the Seagulls first team.
"This season I've had limited chances again so I needed to try and get games elsewhere. Hopefully it will work out and we'll see how the loan goes, it's down to me though."
"I'm looking forward to meeting up with the other strikers now. There is some great competition and that can only be great for the side."
Paynter signed for Leeds last Summer from Swindon Town but his spell at the club has stalled due to injury.
