Following the abandonment of Accrington Stanley's game with Tranmere Rovers due to an injury sustained by defender Tom Bender, the club have commented on his condition.
"Tom is now fully conscious, he has been for a scan which has come back as normal. He is severely concussed and is being kept in overnight for medical staff to keep an eye on him, but he's stable and that's great news." Chief executive Rob Heys said.
Bender was injured during the Johnstone's Paint Trophy match last night. Reports during the game suggested he may have suffered a spinal injury after clashing with his goalkeeper and an opposition player.
Following the incident messages of support flooded social network's, including Twitter where the youngster's name was trending for some time. Accrington Stanley have thanked their fans and supporters of other clubs who offered their best wishes to the eighteen year old.
"Accrington Stanley would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to get in touch about the condition of Tom Bender. We have been inundated with calls, Tweets and emails wishing the 18 year old all the best, and will do our best to ensure that Tom sees them all." A statement on the club's official website read.
