In a lengthy press conference Winter stated his desire for United to be self sufficient, and not have to rely on outside backers, "I have a very clear job to do at the club. What I would like to see is a positive response to the direction of travel that has been set by the owner. The club has to be a sustainable one going forward and it is fair to say it hasn't been, meaning the owner has invested huge amounts of money."
"The infrastructure is here, the stadium is already in place, the potential is massive but at the moment everything isn't quite joined up, hopefully that isn't a huge task given the facilities."
