Chief scout Keith Burt will replace the former Nottingham Forest midfielder, who was only in the role on a part time basis.
Discussing the decision Forest chief executive Mark Arthur said, "I would like to thank David for the enormous contribution he has made in his consultancy role which has seen the club celebrate promotion and reach the play offs on three occasions."
