The 18 year old signed a professional contract with the League One side in the summer and manager Greg Abott sees the move as a great development opportunity for the youngster.
"It will keep him sharp and help his match fitness, and it also helps Lee Ashcroft. We know they look after our players down there, so we're more than happy for him to go and train and work with them, and he will also train with us so that we can keep an eye on him as well."
Swinglehurst spent a work experience period with Workington last season.
