The former Rochdale, Mansfield Town and Barnsley manager had been working as a coach at League One side Scunthorpe before Parkinson made the approach.
Speaking soon after the announcement, the Bantams boss said, "I'm confident Steve is the right man to bring in and he will perfectly compliment the existing staff that we have at the football club. I'm sure he'll be an excellent appointment."
