The 26 year old came through 60 minutes of a behind closed doors game at the weekend against East Stirling.
Rovers manager Paul Martin was happy to have his striker back, "It was great to get John involved again and he is probably ahead of schedule at the moment. He will be a big player for us this season and it will be great to have him fully fit and available as soon as possible."
Gemmell has yet to feature for Albion this season but scored 6 goals in 22 league starts last term.
