"A lot of people thought we were going lose all our good young players and, in fact, it is quite the opposite," said Wilson. "This is a statement of intent from our point of view, we want to keep the best young players."
Of Lowton, specifically, Wilson added: "We know we have a talented lad here and we want him to get better. We are sure he can do, he is determined defender who never gives up."
Lowton's new deal ties him to Bramall Lane until the summer of 2014.
