The former England international was on a season long loan with Championship side West Ham but sustained damage to his knee in a training session at the club.
It's a crushing blow for the midfielder as he was looking to get his career back on track after a disappointing run that has restricted him to just a handful of competitive games.
Bentley is able to return to the Hammers once his injury clears up.
