Experienced midfielder Richard Lavery has been speaking in depth about his return to Hinckley United following his release by Nuneaton Town.
The 34 year old was the subject of approaches by a number of clubs when it was announced he would be leaving the Blue Square North side but he decided to move back to the Knitters after a year away.
"I originally left during the financial problems although I didn't want to have to leave the club. I went to Corby with a few of the lads and there were a few of us driving there, but then soon after that it was just me as some had been let go or moved on."
"I am 34 now and I didn't want to be going up and down the motorway a few times a week by myself. Nuneaton came in and I started the first eight games but then they bought in a new midfielder and I didn't want to be just sitting on the bench getting paid, I wanted to be playing week in week out." Lavery continued.
In the interview with the Hinckley Times Lavery says he hopes his experience will have a positive impact on the young players who line up alongside him for the Knitters first team.
"I thought they had a young squad at Nuneaton, but here it is even younger, after me I think the next oldest is about 25. Hopefully they can learn from myself and Dean Thomas [manager] and we can kick on now."
