Despite not being offered a new contract in the summer Rae had been training with the Bluebirds to keep up his fitness and now returns to the side he spent seven seasons with before linking up with Rangers in 2004.
Manager Barry Smith was thrilled to have the experienced man back in the squad, "Gavin had a few options to consider so I am delighted he has chosen to come back here. Everyone associated with the club will get a boost from this as he was a really popular player when he was here before."
