The 21 year old had yet to feature this season for County but played in the final five games of last term after fighting back to fitness following a leg injury.
A statement on the club's official website read, "A model pro, everybody at Stockport County would like to wish Matty the very best of luck for the future."
Mainwaring began his career as a youngster at Manchester United before moving to Preston North End at the age of sixteen. He joined Stockport in 2008 and made thirty two appearances for the club.
