Following an injury to number one goalkeeper Nicky Weaver, Owls' boss Gary Megson has moved quickly to acquire the experience of Bywater on an emergency loan deal.
"Losing Nicky was a blow because he is our senior goalkeeper. We need an experienced goalkeeper so we are really pleased that Stephen has joined us. He is an experienced keeper who has played a lot of football."
Richard O'Donnell had been deputising in goal in Weaver's absence but it is expected that Bywater will take his place as they host Exeter at the weekend.
