The goalkeeper, currently on loan at Cheltenham Town from Birmingham City, has impressed the Robins boss during his short term spell.
"I knew Jack was going to be in the squad and I'm delighted for him because he deserves it based on his last England performance. He has done well for us."
Butland's call-up will see him miss Cheltenham's games with Wycombe and Dagenham & Redbridge.
