The Seasiders are currently on a four match unbeaten run following draws with Brighton, Crystal Palace, Cardiff and a 2-0 victory over strugglers Ipswich Town.
"Credit to the way the lads have approached the season, we've had a good start and we're in the pack. Cardiff was another game unbeaten in this little we're on so we go into two tough away games now with a bit of confidence."
Blackpool travel to Portsmouth on Saturday and meet Coventry at the Ricoh Arena the following Tuesday, but despite their run of form Southern is keen for his teammates not to underestimate their future opponents.
"They're [Portsmouth] another team that's spent a lot of money and got some good players. It'll be another tough game."
